Richard Sides
6 Collagen, mixed media
Richard Sides works across media with sound, installations, painting, drawing, film, and sculpture. Improvisation is a central component of his works. For his exhibition Dwelling at the Kunstverein Braunschweig, he built an installation consisting of two walk-in wooden structures and a 2-channel video work.
As Jahresgabe, Richard Sides shows six framed unique works, which, like his exhibition Dwelling, address conflicts of urban centers and post-industrial small towns and refer to current political events in Great Britain and Europe. In his humorous collages and drawings, Sides combines private photographs and found objects from magazines and online platforms. Photos of industrial wastelands in his hometown of Rotherham alternate with the logo of the tourism app Trip Advisor. Batons of police officers in combat gear meet collaged dried flower stalks.
