Valentina Karga
Nahal Pettish, 2020/21
Valentina Karga's artistic projects create occasions for participatory work and socio-political engagement. They connect existing and newly forming communities with the idea of speculating together about alternative infrastructures, public spaces and interiors; here Valentina Karga also speaks of "art as simulation". Aspects of sustainability and resource distribution directly influence the choice of material and materials, which are often recycled or particularly easily degradable. As part of the collectives Soft Agency and Collective Disaster, she regularly realizes large-scale workshops and architectural works.
Another interest is reflected in the edition Nahal Pettish created for the Kunstverein Braunschweig. This is part of an already long-running, exploratory engagement with the prehistoric representation of women's bodies in different cultural contexts by means of figurines. Valentina Karga translates these female statuettes into a free series of drawings in natural colors, focusing on a transcultural, feminist recontextualization of the genre.
