OrderAnima (2011–2024) is part of Olson’s ongoing series Psycho Index, which she has been developing since the early 2010s. The series begins with so-called private performances, in which the artist photographs herself in her studio with various props from unusual camera angles. In her poses, subtle feminine references intertwine with a play on the boundaries of gendered attribution. Reflections, cropped views, overlays, and blurring deliberately subvert any clear spatial orientation, positioning the series in the tension between body and perception.
In addition to the photographs, Olson creates works from everyday materials such as paper, fabric, tape, and transparent sheets, which she compresses into layered surfaces. The title Psycho Index refers to a central motif of the series: the attempt to make psychological and physical traces visible—indices of presence and absence, of self-perception and fragmentation. Olson is interested in the ways the human body persists in memory and image, without ever becoming fully tangible.
Psycho Index is less a closed body of work than an open archive of artistic self-inquiry. Over the years, Olson has expanded the cycle with new works that revisit and transform earlier motifs. In this way, a visual memory emerges, oscillating between intimacy and distance, between surface and depth.
